When I set up a GNU/Linux system for my (former) spouse, I gave her Window Maker. She was actually quite happy with it. It is different enough from Explorer (this is what the GUI shell for Microsoft Windows is called) so people don't get confused into thinking that something should be somewhere. It is helpful, in my opinion, because as my car is a standard transmission, I will reach for clutch/gear shifter when driving an automatic transmission. When I drive something with a significantly different user interface (such as a bicycle) I never try to do that. Similar theory applies: This is not Microsoft Windows. It does not look like Microsoft Windows. Get that Microsoft Windows paradigm out of your head. It is also different enough from the Apple OS X GUI shell as to allow Mac OS X refugees a chance to break out of their routine also. Those coming from NeXTSTEP might not fare so well. -john -- [email protected] http://www.kernel-panic.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/kplug-list
