So long as there's air movement underneath, I think you might. If you don't mind replacing it frequently. Light-colored shingles work better than dark, after all. Another problem with screens and tarps is that you can't walk on 'em... which makes roof maintenance difficult. -- I can't find much information on light-colored metal roof effectiveness.
