I've been made aware of just how serious a problem this is for home burns.
I have data I want to preserve for my kids ... when they're in their 40s.
AFAICT, technology just isn't there yet.

Until then, repeated re-recording seems to be the way to go.

No remarks on whether disabling smartd is valid or whistling dixie?
