I think repeated re-recording of data onto newer and newer technologies
will always be the way to go. I currently store everything on hard drives
and every couple of years move it along.

I am currently storing everything important
on GMail by sending it to myself as an
attachment. I have no problem with the
security issues though YMMV. I expect
that Google is more likely than I am to
be capable and likely to save stuff forever.

I do not have huge volumes of stuff to
save. Nor do I have strong security
issues. So GMail seems a practical
solution for me. Again, YMMV, but it
is worth a trial.
