That might be a way to go. Although Gus is right, that I may not _need_ an MTA, and Neil may be right that I'm ungrateful for squirrelmail's elusive charms, I still would like to return to what makes me happiest: a home server that gathers my mail, stores it, uses mutt, and allows me to ssh in. Also, I may occasionally fool around with an app (or write an app) that spits out email. But simple -- REAL simple -- is a Good Thing for me.
