http://www.powernotebooks.com/index.php3 http://www.agearnotebooks.com/ (these 2 seem almost like like clones if not relatives) http://www.gamepc.com/shop/category.asp?catalog%5Fname=GamePC+Online+Products&category%5Fname=Notebook&page=1 http://www.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/linux_3x I finally settled on a Dell 1420n. A 14.1" wide-format screen. (I liked small, but I think there are more choices at 15.4 Dell, BTW has a fair stock of refurbs http://www.dell.com/outlet/) All hardware works with Dells ubu704, including wifi, suspend & hibernate, and audio I was disappointed they installed a 32-bit version, though. Trying other live-cd's (eg f7) didn't work a month ago, but f7 beta versions seem to have caught up, & at least work with most of hw, but not audio, yet (last I looked). HigherRes option 1440x900 comes only with "supershine" (or whatever they call it). This is a little disappointing in viewing-angle, and light leak that seems to degrade contrast off normal-viewing angle. But it's basically ok - just not what I had hoped for. I also bought my wife a Toshiba A135-S4527 15.4 1280x800, which also has a "Xshine", and it seems quite a bit better screen, but no HiRes option. I like lots of pixels. I run 1600x1200 (~112dpi) on my desktop CRT. I was a little worried that 1440x900 (about 120 dpi, IIRC) might be too hard on my old eyes, but it's ok. I wouldn't go finer though.
