The scanner I am dealing with produces 600DPI PDF files. Not a big deal, or so I thought.

How on earth do I convert the PDF file to TIFF/PNG/something useful to GIMP?

So far, I can't even get the stupid PDF to render outside of Adobe Reader and the XPDF included with Fedora 7. *Everything* else seems to downsample it to like 100DPI and completely destroys the scan. And Adobe makes sure that you can't do any useful export with Reader. And I don't see how to make XPDF dump to anything useful either.

Anybody have suggestions?
