Acroread does have a "Print to File" option. Sometimes it seems to
produce unprintable PostScript. Sometimes that unprintable PostScript
can be fixed by a call to ps2ps(1) which filters it through
Ghostscript.
$ acroread --help
reveals that there is a command-line way to convert PDF to PostScript.
