As much as I approve the idea of her being only on Linux, it's not really practical at SDSU. Even with my MacBook Pro, I occasionally bump into something that I need to fire up XP via VMWare to deal with.

I normally don't wade into stuff like this, but I'm really going to recommend that you spend the money for a Core 2 Duo mumblesomething. I think the low-end Apple portables would probably fit the bill.

The perceived jump in performance to a dual processor from a single processor is quite large. The interactive responsiveness of a dual core is system is *much* better than single.
