No, you are correct.  Wavs are lossless but cannot store song
metadata. That is why I suggested flac if having a lossless copy was
important.  As a added benefit, flac is compressed, so will take up
less than half the space as wav.

Typically, when ripping songs intended to go on a hardware mp3 player,
you don't need to worry about any lossless files.  Just have the
ripper/encoder encode directly to mp3.
