Wow you're right. Gizmo has been through a few incarnations from what
I think were its original origins as just a client for the
sipphone.com service. Now it's a chat/voice app that rides on XMPP
and SIP... but sure enough it's only "freeware" not open source. My
apologies for the misinfo.
Then again... an open standards alternative to Skype is at least a
start. :) Though if Gizmo is making its money on service, I don't see
any reason the client couldn't be open source... or better yet
integrated into something like Pidgin.
