Yes, I found the wiki, And the getting started and user manuals. And I
searched.

Again, is it me or do the docs suck?

I have searched all the wiki pages I could. Here is a simple thing that
isn't mentioned.

How do you load music on your server? How do you name the dir hierarchies?
Do you rip directly from Amarok, and if so, how?

The Quick Start Guide says

"""
Building your collection is an essential step in using all of Amarok's
features. From the Collection Browser, click the Configure Folders button
located in the toolbar. Next you will choose which folders you would like
to be in your collection from the Configure Collection dialog. Also from
here you have the option to Scan folders recursively, Watch folders for
changes, and Import playlists that are found in the collection folders.
After selecting your folders, and checking any relevant check boxes, click
the OK button. After the initial scan, your collection is built and you
can move on to making a playlist.
"""

Problem? Yup. The menu trail isn't; I closed a menu bar accidentally and
there's no "intuitive" way to restore it; and this says nothing about
ripping.

The scripts I showed kplug are better than anything I can find in Amarok,
which is scary. But I _can_ use something like cdrbq to rip, my script to
rename, and the Amarok to replay. But, man!, is _that_ a violation of the
Wolfe doctrine ("Why did you write that for yourself, Lan, instead of
using what they wrote for you?").

IOW WTF does one do -- not just to rip, but to learn?

I'm very discouraged. I feel like I wasted an afternoon.
