What does everyone use to track servers and workstations and routers

Zenoss might do what you need although I am still just using it for
application management and haven't gotten into using it for inventory
management although I am heading that way with it. It can use SNMP to
find out what IP's, macs, interfaces, etc are where on your switches
and do pings of your network to see what hosts are alive out there. You
can add extra fields to it for tracking other meta data specific to your
company and use zope page templates to write custom reports and views of
your data.
Otherwise we just use a home-grown database based app but that needs
manual updating. Automatic updating with notification that something
changed might be the best way to go.
