If you want to get new users to Linux, more of the meetings need to be

What will the experienced guys (most of kplug these days) do during the
meetings?
I just asked what the experienced guys might do if we do too many newbie
presentations. A fair question, I think. Not at all elitist. Everyone
should enjoy the meeting. Seems like something got blown out of proportion.
I was not criticizing Tracy. I was criticizing what he wrote. Each of us
is capable of saying stupid things even when we generally are thoughtful
and helpful most of the time.
I really don't think it was stupid.
And, mailists that do not use emoticons are very narrow-band channels of
communication.
Most people here are quite reasonable and there is little reason to
assume that anyone means any offense. When they do mean offense it is
pretty clear. Such events are very rare on kplug-list. Use of emoticons
has never really been necessary on mailing lists. Not in the 20 years
I've been using them anyway. We sometimes throw them in just to be cute
but they were never considered to add much to the information content.
It may very well be that Tracy was making a joke but there was nothing
to indicate that that was the case.
You will know when I am joking because it will be funny and you will laugh.
