The interesting thing for me was that if I pointed my antenna a certain way, all DTV but 8.1 came in great, flawless even. Pointing it to get 8.1 flawless, several other DTV channels suffered. Pointing it toward the sky seemed to get the best reception for all. And no matter which way it was pointing, small planes passing high overhead would degrade the signal somewhat for maybe about ½ a minute or so. (In fact, that's what gave me the idea to point the antenna toward the sky.) Is the UHF band bouncing off the upper atmosphere? And why would small planes interfere? Is it their radio equipment? Or are they just "blocking" the signal?

what antenna design are you using? if you have a Yagi with upper and lower
reflectors, which looks like this:

try removing the upper reflector while pointing toward Mt Soledad. It may allow
enough signal in from behind you( Mt Miguel ) for reception of all of the
major channels. It helped here but being so close to the xmitter, it also
allowed in too many strong reflections.
