I _think_ what I need to know is how to reset the config for cdstatus so
it points to freedb, which seems to have moved its URL for queries. From
the posts (thanks, all) I suspect it Gracenote came on the scene before my
proggie broke, so venal and evil as it may be, it ain't my current
problem.
I wish I had these conversations at home where I could post configs etc. I
wish I had more time at home to experiment with what I learn here. I wish

Right now the --cddb capabilities are functional, but fairly rigid.
There is no option to change the lookup server (except in the source
code) etc.

You might be able to do it by hacking your hosts file. Or set up a proxy.
