For one, Fedora is a bleeding edge distro and not designed as a general purpose desktop for consumers. 2, Java has just been open sourced so some distro's still don't ship with the official release. 3, Flash is needed by YouTube and that is a binary/proprietary format. 4, your mpg and Windows media crap is also proprietary. So really, most of it comes down to patented or proprietary software which many US distro's will not pre-package with the GNU/Linux desktop.
