I have what I think is a hardware problem with my mobo that freezes the
mouse occasionally. It might actually be a software problem or maybe
specific to my hardware -- I really couldn't say, Anyway, the symptom
is that the mouse dies (pointer still visible, but frozen).

I've got a little dance that fixes the problem for me. It works well
enough that I haven't worried about the root cause of the problem.

I do ctrl-alt-f1 and login to the virtual console as root, and then do
rmmod uhci_hcd and modprobe uhci_hcd, and all is fixed.

Maybe this would work in some cases that others think their X is hosed.

In my case, a dmesg line referring to some failure in uhci_hcd is what
led me to try this recovery. If you don't see any such message at the
end of your dmesg output, I suppose it's unlikely to work for you.
