I don't know if there is a Wubi that is compatible with Vista.
That was just too easy. Google for "ubuntu vista wubi" and you'll find
your answer.
I was trying to give ideas rather than do something for somebody. I didn't mean to upset or offend anybody.

The idea was that you did NOT think something worked. That is not
being very helpful when the answer is so simple to find.
IMO. There is a difference between "I do not know if this will work" and "I do not think this will work". To me, the first one means that some research is required and I haven't done it. The second one is a negative statement and you better have checked all your options beforehand. Now I recognize that somebody might misinterpret the first one and I will try to avoid posting unless I have closed any possible loophole in my post.
And Wubi.exe is just the installer for a Linux installation, it is not the
Linux installation. If there are hardware issues with the LINUX INSTALL,
wubi is not going to help/save/etc you from that
Yes, but there is a minor gotcha ( http://wubi-installer.org/faq.php#requirements ) with the file system being less robust on power failure. It puts the file system as a folder in Windows, but when your run Ubuntu it looks like a linux file system.

2. I may have gotten a rotten taste about Wubi from the guy who tried to tell me that my problems would be solved by using Wubi instead of the partitioning that I had already done. Of course he didn't stop to consider that my problems were with my broadcom wireless chip set and my new Nvidia card for which there was no good Linux driver at the time.

he must have been quite confused if he thought your posting for help with
wireless and video was an installation problem. How strange.
I didn't post for help. The exchange was in person, but maybe not person to person. However, it was no secret that I was having a problem with my linux. He never stopped to ask what the problem was before coming across with Wubi as the solution to all installation problems. Between that and the gotcha mentioned above, I decided that Wubi was not for me. I got a tip from the owner of "That Technical Bookstore" about an installfest there and got (am getting) friendly, useful, in person help from people on this list.

Cheers,
Marieke
