So the host that I've been using for the last few months really sucks,
they have horrible support and an almost criminal auto-upgrade policy
that you have to catch and opt out of or they charge you without
authorization. Today, I just wanted to add an A record to my dns zone
file and found out that I'm no longer able to manage my own dns since
they "upgraded" their control panel. I'm done with them!
Can anyone recommend a hosting service that doesn't suck? I use my
domain mostly for email, but like to have a web page for testing
purposes. Linux servers with LAMP are preferred, shell access would be
awesome. Low price is a must. Tech support should at least be competent.
Ok, go.
A couple options:
I can offer you hosting on a FreeBSD server for $10/month (a lot like
Linux, so instead of LAMP it would be FAMP or BAMP!? :o). In addition to
Apache, I can offer Tomcat as well.
Greenest Host (http://www.greenesthost.com) has several different plans
starting at $9.95/month. I still admin for them when needed, but things
just work so I'm not often needed.
