You might take a look at CherryPy (cherrypy.org) or twisted.web
(twistedmatrix.com, nevow.com). These allow you to embed the web server
along with your app.
I like this idea and will mark this post so I can look into the links
later. Embedding a browser with the app. sounds like a better solution than
installing Apache with the app. (even though a standard Apache install is as
easy as many other applications).
