I routinely lock up my Mac and Linux desktop machine. MTBF is ~1 month.

My Linux /servers/ tend to stay up for a long time. Mostly, they get
rebooted after applying security updates.

My Blade 100 running Solaris 8 has been up for over a year (it's time
to shut it down, take it apart, and clean out the dust). I've been
logged in for over a year as well...

I don't think the folks I respected were ever shy about proclaiming
that C++ sucks. Even in the 90s.

Java's best feature is that it isn't C++.

Generics changed that. Java is becoming C++ like.

This is not an improvement.

All hardware sucks.
All software sucks.
Down, not across.
