Is there anyone who can help test a motherboard? I bought a ASUS CUSL2
mb on ebay. It was DOA. The guy sent another and it was also DOA. I
have two memory sticks both 256MB SDRAM and a couple of P3 CPUs (800 MHz
and 1GHz). The basic test is to install CPU and memory, attach power
supply, video, and mouse and turn on and see if it will POST. I would
like to find someone with an ATX power supply (I have one but have no way
to verify it's not the problem) and a way to test the memory for
independent check so in case I did something wrong in checking the mb.
Thanks.
I notice that you did not mention anything that draws much of a load.
When I was in computer repair, I recall having *some* power supplies that
would not give the OK signal to the motherboard if there was not enough of
a load. I ended up having to have a hard disk drive plugged into the
power of the power supply to give it enough of a load. I didn't connect
the data cable, not for the most basic test. But I always connected the
power. Several motherboards that otherwise would not POST, suddenly came
to life, simply by giving enough load to the power supply. Weird.

I did not mention it, but I did have a hard drive attached to the power
supply for that reason. I have tried with two power supplies. I use same
setup with an old board, and it gets to setup screen. The one I am testing
gives one long beep then nothing. I am looking for another memory stick to
try. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
