from a terminal
  cat /etc/issue
or
  cat /etc/redhat-release

Or from a gui filebrowser, open either of those files (if asked, chooose
to open in a text editor).

OK, so it's an LCD with native resolution of 1680x1050.

The older versions of Fedora (aka Fedora Core, in those days) might not
do as good a job of identifying the hardware as the newer versions do today.

As you say in another message, the monitor should be able to display
lower resolutions such as 1024x768. I haven't played too much with
running wide-screen (16:10) displays at a 4:3 resolution, but I would
think things would always end up distorted. If 1680x1050 is undesirable
because fonts end up too small, there may be a couple of options
 1. choose large-fonts -- except that I can't remember how to do that,
and can't seem to find it right now. Maybe I'm remembering something
from <shush> Windows? Maybe someone else will help out here.
 2. choose a lower but still wide-screen-format resolution such as
1440x900, 1280x800, or 1360x768

But before getting to there, you may need to tell the system that the
monitor is a wide-screen LCD capable of 1680x1050. You do that in
System > Administration > Display > Hardware > Monitor Type
If your FC3(?) menu doesn't navigate to there, you can probably just run
the command
  system-config-display
It will ask for the root password, if run as non-root.

Xwindows may require a restart after such a change.
