As far as I know, each wireless repeater halves the available
bandwidth, since it needs to have one signal coming and another going.

You might also look at parabolic reflectors to attach to existing
vertical stub antennas.  Look at KPLUG archives for an extended
discussion.  Or I can find the original article again.   Do not be
deterred by people who dismiss the whole thing as unproven.  Antennas
have been designed long before 802.11 wireless came along.
