Tivo has been out for many years and I am still without DVR. Not that
I haven't tried. I don't really want to invest the time to set up a
Myth box. And then you have to deal with cablecards etc.

I had the Cox DVR for a while a few months ago. Man, that thing
sucked. It was a VCR that recorded to HD. You had to manually set the
times and everything. I was hoping for something with some more
tivo-like artificial intelligence which would record the kind of stuff
I typically watch and keep that HD full. No such luck. So back it
went.

Then we ended up dumping cable TV and getting satellite because it was
cheaper and would allow my wife to get her Vietnamese channels. It had
a DVR option also so we tried that. Even though the thing had an
ethernet port on the back of it the guys insisted it needed an analog
phone line. So back it went and now we have a standard satellite
box.

I really don't want TV in the house at all but the other people in the
house require it. I figure if I'm going to have a TV I should have a
DVR so that at least I watch only the good stuff and not commercials
or spend time channel flipping. Alas, it was not meant to be. If I can
ever get Miro to work on my box again I think I might just settle for
watching stuff that way and completely skip the DVR. It's ultimately
the way of the future anyhow.
