This in recently from SDOSS. Perhaps we KPLUG can do something to
redirect the publicity. I think there is nothing really wrong with
having KPLUG installfests at ThatTechnicalBookstore once a month. If
we do not rule out the possibility of other installfests at other
times and places.

Carl,
You have it right. The SDOSS is no longer involved with the Installfests. We
have not been involved for over a year!
The concept of having a Wednesday meeting followed up with a Saturday
installfest (on the same subject) was very limiting. The board of the SDLUG
did not want to have any more Installfests. We could not muster the folks,
or the resources. However, I was not in favor of abandoning a popular
activity.
I approach Dan (then, San Diego Technical Books) to take over the
Installfests. He agreed that was a great idea for his business.
Unfortunately Dan has had his problems. However in my discussion with him
yesterday, he plans to carry on.
I have changed the information on our website. Dan said he would make
similar changes on his to avoid any confusion in the future. I am pleased
that there are folks out there that are willing to help out once a month. I
think the Installfests are a great idea.
Dan deserves the credit, if it has inadvertently been accrued to the SDOSS;
then I apologize.
Thank you for your concerns,
Richard
P.S.
I hope that this message, and the actions we have taken puts this issue to
rest!

I think you have missed some of the historical development. Back in
some part of the olden days, SDLUG sponsored an installfest, and had a
few people coming there to assist the "customers" and had some
hardware for burning CDs and for setting up a LAN. Over the past few
months, this support seems to have disappeared. The bookstore (by
whatever name) supplied the venue for the installfest.
Two of the three recent Installfests at the bookstore were essentlally
run by KPLUG people. I was not at the most recent one, because I was
at the SCALE conference in LA. Someone who was there told me that
"you were sorely missed" at the installfest. While this makes me feel
good by being wanted, it reinforces my belief that SDLUG has become
mostly a publicity front at least with respect to the InstallFests.
Hope you don't mind this flame.
