The Installfest yesterday was interesting. We were getting fewer simple requests for help with installation, and more complex questions like "How do I get SuSE 9.2 to boot from a USB drive?".

My opinion on this subject, "Don't."

I have had *nothing* but garbage from USB drives. Sometimes they work; sometimes they don't. Some boot; some don't. Some lose data; some don't.

Use firewire. Even on Windows, firewire drives have been far more stable than usb drives. There just seems to be something better (probably more complete) about the protocol definition for firewire.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty much stuck with USB for flash drives. However, firewire cases were almost exactly the same price as usb cases last time I checked. And, most of them are now dual and have both firewire and usb.
