Heh! Well, I'll put my few cents in. You be the judge re "sense", though. For the most part, people close to the hardware have my respect and trust. Andy, I especially liked your comments on the limitations of a previous suggestion, and your quoting of throughput capabilities. I wonder if anybody has checked out the local vendor that Mike McM has recommended (http://www.gopcn.com/). I wonder if Josh is ever going to check-in <tease, grin>. For my own preferences, I admit being _more comfortable_ with prices nearer 1K$ than 2K$. If there is a *BIG* premium for disk hot-swap, I would dispense with it, even though it might add pain for our site-space donor. I would second a remark made before that software RAID-1 is good, and RAID-5 is not really what we want/need. More than 2 disks is not really necessary. I'd rather have dual power supplies. Does anyone know about the availability of replacement power supplies and cooling fans -- any choice which has a lock-in to expensive components should lose points. Should we try to _get by_ with 2GB? Does ECC (if we use it) tend to drop in price with time? Regards, ..jim -- [email protected] http://www.kernel-panic.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/kplug-steer
