We use the same sandwich methode on our gliders and that is what I have done
on my KR2.

I've used almost the same system for about 10 years now. What I found is
after a year the double sided tape looses some of it's "stickyness" at the
leading edge and then on a pass the gap seal will come loose and fall to the
ground. This makes things interesting for those on the ground who think
something just fell off your airplane, which it did. To fix the problem I
also add a piece of clear packing tape which covers the leading edge of the
gap seal. 1/2 the tape is on the bottom of the wing and 1/2 on the leading
edge of the gap seal. This way you have the gap seal sandwiched between the
double stick tape and the clear tape. This has held up well and the problem
of loosing gap seals never returned.
