Brian, there are only two FAA recognized civilian formation cards FAST and FFI. FAST is for warbirds and FFI is for all others. It is not uncommon at all for 777 pilots (I know a couple) who fail the initial FFI checkride after a year plus of practice. There is so much more to formation flying than just flying close..........known to formation flyers as a "gaggle". As far as qualified check pilots, there is one in Atlanta, one in Cincy, one in TX. There are several flight leads I know. Let me do some checking but I think I will have a really hard time in convincing a CP or FL to put on a clinic on such short notice. It is usually a three day deal with Friday night ground school, Saturday with pilots flying with FFI cardholders in the cardholders airplane followed by the pilot flying his own with the FFI at lead. Sunday is usually a large formation up. It is an entire weekend clinic. In the mean time, I'll do some web cruising and post some training manual download site, video, and see if I can the standard power point TeamRV FFI uses. There are several clinics put on around the US. The next one is in CA. Every year there is a clinic in Parkersburgs. Hang, tight everyone, let me do some checking.
