Using the engine crank shaft as a pivot could do some damage due to no oil 
lube.  So, that's a non-starter.
What I am doing now is laying a towel over the cockpit side just like the 
car mechanics do to keep belt buckles and buttons from scratching the paint. 
Then use a firm foam pillow to lean on so I can use both hands to reach 
everything and not break my back bending over the cockpit sidewall.  Works 
for me, your results may vary.
