Consider gaffer's tape. It's a high quality tape made to stick well, but remove without a trace. Looks like duct tape, but much higher quality with different stickum. Designed for video productions to cover wires on walls and carpet. It ain't cheap, like $30 to $50/roll, but comes in a variety of widths. I can't recommend a source as there are several. I bought several rolls years ago as I do a lot of video and still have most of them left.
