Pretty creative, but the timing is marked on the crank flange. It should align with the case seam BELOW the crank for #1 Cyl. Another method I use quite often to verify timing if the marks are obscured or obliterated is to stick a finger in #1 cyl spark plug hole and feel when the piston is at TDC (or use a dial indicator), then use a smart level or prop protractor taped to the prop to measure how many degrees I back it up from TDC.
I also completed the annual on my KR last week as well. The usual stuff in it's usual condition. Made a couple of minor mods, one to the breather tube to get it to stop suctioning oil when above 180 mph and added a second set of USB ports into the cockpit. It still has perfect compression on those 4 pistons we hand machined to use a different top compression ring. Really pleased with that mod. Otherwise, the plane is another year older and has more time on it, well north of 1200 hours and has been flying for 22 years, so some places in the paint and finish are starting to look a bit worn. Time to fly 'em for a while. So who's up for a late Breakfast or lunch in Mt Vernon on Saturday? Weather forecast looks good across the south for Saturday. -Jeff Scott North AR > Sent: Thursday, May 30, 2019 at 6:43 PM > From: "Flesner via KRnet" <[email protected]> > To: [email protected] > Cc: Flesner <[email protected]> > Subject: KR> happy camper > > > I wrapped up my annual this afternoon, rolled the KR out of the hangar, > and fired it up. > > Items done: > > - I removed my starter and left mag to install a new 30 amp B&C > alternator to replace the 12 amp I've been using all these years. > Noticeable difference and working as designed. > > - New brake pads. > > _ standard inspection, cables , hinges, compression check, ELT, wheel > bearings, etc..... > > I tried to arrange for a mechanic to re-install my mag and set the > timing without success so I ordered a timing light, watched some videos > (not very helpful) and installed the mag and timed it myself with good > results.
