When considering wing tanks, it really is no more difficult to put the
tanks in the outer wing panels then the stub wing. Well, maybe slightly
but worth the effort. Consider making them long and narrow and close to
the main spar to help with the CG with fuel in the tanks. My tanks are
10 inches behind the main spar in the outer wing panels, from root rib
to tip rib, approx 6 to 7 feet long, and hold 12.5 gallon each. My CG
moves forward 1 inch from full, 25 gallon, to empty. Easy to determine
tank size. Decide on the number of gallon you want, convert to cubic
inches per gallon, and size the tank accordingly. My tanks were off by
1/10 of a gallon when filled from a pump. I'm still blaming that on the
pump.

P.S. I just looked it up and there are 231 cubic inches to one gallon.
Maybe it wasn't the pump. I used 232 cubic inches as measured on a
rectangular gas can. I guess that's why your results may vary.
