This is the shape of my Diehl 30" gear. Not to scale.
Short angle against the spar. This places my wheel contact on the
ground very near the lead edge of the wing. Like Jeff, I couldn't be
happier with the ground handling, takeoff and landing.
I've looked high and low for the original Diehl instructions and can't
find them. I've found things for Gatherings in the 90"s and lots of
other records but no Diehl instructions. I recall they were only two or
three sheets on 8.5X11 paper in black and white with a couple of photos
but can't find them anywhere. I only recall you flipped them front to
back depending on gear setup. Rand once sold an aluminum gear, one
piece, that bolted to the front of the spar and that would have placed
the wheels more rearward than the Diehl setup. I guess they worked
too. Dan also replaced the lower cast aluminum fittings with steel
fittings because of failures. I replaced them on receipt as I didn't
think they were up to the task. I made 4130 brackets very similar to
what Dan later replaced the castings with.
