For all the builders out there, what is the best way to get started on building the boat? Is it 100% necessary to order a kit from somewhere (Aircraft Spruce, Wicks, etc.) or can the entire plane be assembled completely from scratch? I'm planning to build my fuselage approximately 6" wider than the plans call for, which I'm guessing will require heavy modifications elsewhere, so I've been trying to avoid a kit at all costs.
Work has kept me busy for the past couple of months and I haven't had any time to actually start building, but I do have a little bit of time off over the Holidays so I'm hoping I can finally begin here soon. The start of a ~10 year process. Any info or suggestions you all have will be greatly appreciated.
