Because Ken Rand designed the KR2 decades earlier than the Sonex was
designed? Although engineers are usually astute people, they are not
born with every possible perfect design in their heads at all times (not
that the Sonex is perfect.....I've never seen it), and do not magically
see the perfect solution for when they are designing something.
Otherwise, we wouldn't need engineers anymore....the world would be
perfectly designed already!
As for spar tests, please take a look at the 2008 KR Gathering website
at http://www.krnet.org/mvn2008/ , about a third of the way down, for a
spar test conducted at the 2008 Gathering. Look how perversely bent the
inner and outer spars are bent before failure. As a data point, KR
wings don't visibly flex when flying in moderate turbulence. I can't
imagine what you have to do while flying to bend them (or their
fittings) enough to fail....other than impacting the ground at high speed!
Also note that the both www.N56ML.com and www.KRnet.org have a Google
search box located at each site, for immediate searching of the
respective website. It's how I find things so quickly on those sites.
I looked for "failure", and had was looking at it in a few seconds.
There's a lot of information on both sites....hundreds of builder blog
sites for KRnet, and lots of details on N56ML on my site....
