But we still measuring altitude in FEET. I have been inside a Russian
cargo plane, similar to our C-130, and it's altimeter reads in feet.
In fact, all the pilot's flight instruments' utilized by any Air
Traffic Controller, were in English. Co-pilot and all other stations,
were in Russian.

 Phil,

Don't over-think this. It is nothing more than human nature and the
resistance to change. We ( I and other old people) grew up and were
educated in "inches", "feet", "yards", "miles", and the like and
refuse
to change. We have a mental image of measurement that is too
difficult
to re-program. I'm still not sure if I'm hot or cold when I hear the
temperature in Celsius. As the young pilots trained in knots mature
through the ranks it will change. I for one however will be buried in
a
grave depth measured in feet or placed in an urn measured in cubic
inches.
