How about going to a slightly larger metric size and retapping that hole. Mark 
Langford went to 10 mm WAF bolts when 3/8" were too loose.
He reamed them slightly larger for the 10 mm. Just a thought.

I'm surprised that no one has suggested just rotating the sender and
drilling and tapping new holes.  I'm holding that one in reserve.
