Just before you sent that message, I found the issue was not fixed. The
update script trashed the efi partition on a live system and wiped Grub
from the machine before  automatically rebooting before I could even
attempt to fix the issue.

I used to be a die hard ubuntu fan. Now I've got trust issues with
ubuntu.

I haven't migrated everything away, but I do have two more production
machines to upgrade, and I'd rather not have to completely reinstall if I
don't have to.

Are you 100% sure the issues have been all resolved?
