One way to do this would be to set that extension "Preferred Incoming" to
NO. The default for all extensions is to answer a ringing line when they go
off hook. If you set it to "NO" then picking it up should do nothing.
On a desk phone you press "program 99" 2-1-Store. (I forget how to go into
station programming mode on the cordless though.)

This way you would have to press the line button to answer the call. I have
not tried this on the cordless phones but it should work.

Charles:

I've got a KX-T7885 in my home/office, and your suggestion works correctly.
The phone does not answer when lifted from the cradle.

To program the feature on the cordless:

Press the FUNC key, then "0", then press the SELECT (aka LCD) key to toggle
between station or handset programming, then press the STORE (aka AUTO) key
the display should show PT-PGM Mode. Then follow the steps Charles outlined
above. Press the OFF key to return the phone to normal operation.
