Brian:
Extension 141 is a valid extension for a dual cabinet KX-TD1232. AFAIK, unless you assign x141 from port 41-1 to an unused extension, and an unused extension number to port 41-1 thus freeing up x141, things might not work. I am fuzzy on the two cabinet issues (extensions > 132), but I am fairly sure that this is true for extensions in the first cabinet (101-132, 201-232) even if the extension cards are not installed.
For your future experiments I suggest that you try assigning an extension that is in your dial plan, but not assigned to anything.
Okay, here is something concrete:
Assuming 1xx and 2xx are in your dial plan...
Assign an extension number not used for anything else (say 277, 195, etc.) to a phantom extension.
Assign the phantom extension to ring (or at least light up) on a button on one or more real extensions. As I recall this is key! The phantom extension must be set up to ring at a physical extension, even if it is on an extension that is not connected in your system.
When you dial the phantom extension internally, the phones at the real extensions with the phantom programmed as a button should ring (or light up). If the phone is configured to ring, a POTS phone connected to the extension will ring (as long as you have not set XDP to split the POTS phone from the proprietary phone through station programming).
These steps can all be done from a proprietary phone at the manager's extension.
BTW: If you have lots of phantom extensions to assign (e.g. church or school mailboxes with lights on a DSS by the front desk), you might consider opening up the extension plan to include 3xx. You might have to check to see which feature codes might conflict with those numbers. I do not recall offhand.
Sorry if my instructions are not completely precise. I do not have the manual with me.

BTW: I assume that you have a set of installation and user manuals for the version that you are programming.

<[email protected]>Talk about frustrating...I set up a phantom ext #141 (using the Programmator tool) (left that part out, sorry), and I even tried making a mailbox 141, left it a message, and no luck. However, I think something isn't quite working right though. With a phantom extension, I should be able to dial it, correct? Because when I do, I get "Not Valid".
Any ideas? Thanks all! --Brian

If there is no phantom ext or real extension, then the TVS does not think that an extension exists so it will not light the mw lamp (I think), also the ksu will not allow vm transfer (VTR) because it too does not think there is such a number.
If you have phantoms set up, then it should work as you want. It is helpful to keep the box numbers and the phantom numbers the same, although I suppose you can link 901 and 141 if you need to. One thing to check is do not set "all calls transfer to mailbox" in the tvs mailbox settings. If you do then it will ignore the mw lamps. There are other ways to do that, for instance turn on "call blocking" from inside the mailbox auto attendant settings (by touch tone, not by pc).

Ok...I've tried this, but it doesn't seem to work. I've set a DSS button on my phone to be a Message Waiting button ext 141 using the Programmator (as my manual does not have the correct information to do it by hand), I've set mailbox 901 to ext 141, left a message in the box, no lights light up. I've tried manually turning on the lamp by dialing 701141, and I get "MW Not Accepted". I know I must be missing something...any ideas?

Hi all...I've gotten most of the TVS system we have here programmed the way we need it except for one thing. Is it possible to have a mailbox that is not associated with an extension appear on several phones or DSS consoles and have the button for it light when there is a message? I thought this would be possible perhaps through the use of phantom extensions, but I'm not sure.
As usual, any and all help is greatly appreciated! Thanks, --Brian
