First of all, I am a novice in respect of CMS, so I hope rob or dave will give a more detailed information and correct if I give wrong information. CMS is an online editor, that allows you to edit our www pages, without having knowledge about html. With CMS you edit the content of the page in plain language. The template (which you dont need to care about, I dont know how it looks) will then format your content to our normal style, add header/footer/navigator (in short all the html stuff). CMS uses svn (repository storage) to store all content, so we can see old versions. All committers (I think) can update this part of svn.
