Hi List,
First of all sorry for the long post...

I am having a problem connecting an XP Pro and a 98 box to my rp-l2tp
server, for both I am using IPSec/L2TP with x.509 and this seems to be
happening fine, but either the l2tp or the ppp side seems to be failing.

This setup was done using Jacco's page as a guide.
http://www.jacco2.dds.nl/networking/freeswan-l2tp.html

>From the client side (XP) - The connection dials, authenticates then
stops on "Registering your computer on the network..." in the server
syslog the ppp daemon shows "IPCP: timeout sending Config-Requests"
then several "No network protocols running".
After this happens it seems to kill the ipsec session, simply hitting
re-connect on the XP connection does nothing, I have to delete then re-
add the connection in freeswan "ipsec auto --delete adaniels;ipsec
auto --add adaniels" before the XP client can even try to connect again.
The wierdest thing is, this was all working for me before christmas, I
came back after the break and nothing?

I found a redhat bugzilla entry which suggested that it may be the ppp
daemon, but after an update, still nothing.
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=55367

The Clients are:
Windows XP Pro
Base install - No updates

Windows 98
Up to date off Windows Update
with all nessisary l2tp addons (DUN 1.4 etc)

The Server is:
Debian unstable
OpenSwan 1.0
PPP 2.4.2+20031127-2
RP-L2TPD v0.3

The files:
/var/log/auth.log (freeswan)
/var/log/syslog (l2tp and ppp)
l2tp.debug (output of l2tpd -d 65535 -f)
/etc/l2tp/l2tp.conf (l2tp config)
are attached.

This is really driving me bananas, I have been googling on and off for
about a month now to no avail, thank you all in advance for any
guidance you can give..

Thanks,
Aaron Daniels
