Governor Brown: Think Again!
Tell your friends and family today!
       Dear Romi,
We want to thank you for taking action last week. Over 1,000 emails have been
sent to the administration! Today, we need you to help us get 1,000 more people
to send an email.
We are still hearing that Governor Brown is about to raid the state's fragile
budget surplus by stealing up to $400 million for prison expansion, to meet the
Federal Court Order.

This is unbelievably irresponsible - California just crawled out of years of
budget deficitsand the Supreme Court has already demanded that Brown reduce the
population, but our Governor would rather use the surplus that was created by
billions of dollars in cuts to welfare programs, child care, and other social
programs and spend it on private prison beds and prison construction.

We need you to take another step: send this message to your friends, family,
colleagues, and extended networks.

If this plan goes through, you can kiss all of our hardwon progress goodbye -
from sentencing reforms to improving conditions to opening up parole policies
to ending solitary confinement. None of that is going to happen in the middle
of an expansion boom like this.
It doesn't seem like a rumor anymore according to several sources, including
yesterday's Sacramento Bee article, "Jerry Brown, lawmakers mull more prison
spending to avoid inmate releases". Time and again, California politicians have
decided that when they can't convince Californians to pay for prison and jail
expansion, it's easier to just do it without asking.
There's a funny thing about moments like this - either we win, and it
disappears into history.  Or we lose, and this becomes a new monster we have to
fight for an entire generation. I know which way we want this one to go. Please
ask 10 of your friends to support you on this effort today.
Yours,
Emily Harris
Statewide Coordinator

P.S. If you're not in California, we still need you - please send this message
directly to Governor Brown right away.
