Hi,
Something I have always told my students is to:
1) put your dog on a leash and have them sit down while your visitors come
in sit down
2) then give the visit command
3) the dog can sit nicely and have the visitors pat them
4) Then the dog must come back and go into a down(drop) stay near where the
owner is sitting
The whole time the dogs in on a leash
I have a blanket near my chair for my dog
the leash is under your butt (in my case I use the locks on my chair)
you can use a Kong if you have a chewing
this also works great for the stays as well
this also will make your friend happier to visit if the dogs are not jumping
on them
Also for those people who are either afraid( and do not tell you) or are
allergy
hope this helps
