>How many people would keep a rescue dog if it tore up or use the bathroom

*groan, moan, grin* *raising my hand* :)

Good morning Dee Dee! This is a good example of what I meant by saying you
loved the dog with a big sigh at the end.

I have a daush/terrier mix that refuses to be 100% house trained. She
would do better in a home with a doggy door and my suspicion is that is
what she was originally raised with. I've worked with her for years now
and thought we had it all worked out except at night. At night the silly
dog goes potty in the study, then runs upstairs and wakes me up. I look
into those eyes of hers and groan as I get up and go downstairs to clean up
before my husband finds it, asking her why can't she wake me up first? I
even tried hooking her to a leash to my bed as she just loved sleeping on
the bed, but she would jump off the bed, potty, jump back up then wake me
up! I finally just crated her at night.

Lately she has decided that she doesn't want to be house trained any
more! Believe me I have tried everything, even going back to the
basics. She is a stubborn little thing and most likely why she ended up in
rescue to begin with. So we compromise. I live on 5 acres, 2 1/2 fenced
in, so she gets to go outside all she wants. Because we live out in the
country with raccoons and skunks and such, we can't have a doggy
door. Inside she has to be in a crate that is central to all our
activity unless the kids are directly playing with her. When they are
done playing she goes outside or in the crate. At night she sleeps in her
crate. She often goes in the car with us.

My kids are bananas about her. She knows a whole assortment of tricks, she
loves going to the beach with us and will dig upon command as we set her
upon the clams who squirt her in her attempt to catch them! It is really
funny :)

She is one that doesn't need or want to be with her persons, she is quite
happy trailing around the yard after smells, digging, and going about her
business. She comes running (after much training) when called and loves
it when the kids come home from school.

She is about 10-11 yrs old now. A very difficult, if ever, re-home, she
will be with me forever, the carpets won't :)!!! So we love her, with a
big sigh on the end.
