You are not crazy, an apparently you love dogs. Yes, having a dog is a serious 12yrs - 15yrs commitmment and as difficult and enjoyable as having a baby. With that said keep something in mind. If you live alone you only need permission from your apartment building manager. If you get it later you will need permission from your boy/girlfriend or wife/husband.
