Don't be too worried about the kennel experience, as long as you've done some research and found a good place that meets your own requirements for how your dogs should be kept.  Many modern kennels are lovely places with wonderful dedicated staff and excellent conditions for a dog.  Ask friends for a recommendation to someplace they are happy with and make sure you discuss the housetraining issue with the kennel to make sure the arrangements won't work against you.  As long as it's not a very lengthy stay, most dogs should bounce right back, and possibly have a good time.  You might try sending them for one night to the kennel ahead of time so they learn that you come to get them.

Here is an article I wrote to help all of my clients.  It works and is a very easy way to help your boys let you know.  Also you need to make sure you are going out with them and rewarding them with even just one cheerio.

You must also give them feedback if you catch them going in the house.  But only if you catch them and only Vocal feedback.

They will definitely regress at a kennel, it is a bad thing for a puppy.

Hi

I have a quick question...we have 2 adorable male puppies (4 months
old) and are using the crate method for housebreaking and the
puppies are doing great in the crate and when they are not in the
crate and I am busy they are kept in a smaller confined area of the
house - that is all working great no accidents however...when I am
relaxing and the puppies are out of the confined area they will NOT
go to the door to show me that they need to go outside???

We use the same phrase each time we take them out and they always go
in and out the same door. I take them out several times a
day/evening. As long as I lead them to the door they go out and we
have no accidents but...they will not take the initiative and go to
the door.

Sam last night was laying down he got up and casually took a few
steps and relieved himself in the middle of the living room - no
where near the door and with no indication that he was searching for
the door????

Being almost 4 months old the Vet is telling us they should have
been totally housebroken within 6 weeks of coming home from the
breeder - any idea what we are doing wrong? Is there any books we
should be reading on housebreaking? Would you suggest using the
training pads?

Thanks for any suggestions! We are leaving for vacation on Thursday
I am hoping putting them in the kennels will not back-step any
housebreaking progress!
